California Kingsnake
Lampropeltis californiae
Louie is a high white California Kingsnake of unknown sex hatched in 2022. Kingsnakes are a terrestrial species of snake that can be found all over North America, but mostly in the United States and Mexico. California Kingsnakes are specifically native to the West coast and Northern Mexico. Kingsnakes are known to be excellent climbers as well as swimmers, having adapted to conquer all kinds of terrain.

There are about as many different colors and patterns of Kingsnake as there are subspecies! Some are red and yellow, some are gray and red, some are black, some are black and yellow, and some have more conservative patterns in gray and brown tones.

Known to be keen explorers they have a strong eating response and although they are fed primarily a rodent based diet in captivity when given the opportunity they are known to eat other snakes. As a general rule of thumb, any snake that has the name “king” in it will eat other snakes.
