Honduran milk snake
Lampropeltis triangulum hondurens
Mushu is a male Honduran Milk snake hatched in 2020. Milk snakes can be identified by smooth scales, no differentiation between the head and neck, a small, rounded head, and moderately slender body. Exact colour and pattern vary by subspecies, many of which are banded with combinations of red/orange, black, and white/yellow. Sometimes they are mistaken for venomous coral snakes.   They are native to many parts of Northern & Central America. They are crepuscular, which means that although they are active at night, their peak hours are around dawn and dusk. In the wild milk snakes are known to eat other snakes, small mammals, lizards, birds and eggs- though most often in captivity they are fed mice and rats.
